Hi,

Today I made a prototype of the web client using an svg layer over
cloudmade tiles for display:
http://playground.mekensleep.com/~proppy/playground/client/player/client.html

It uses the HTML5 geolocation api to refresh GPS coordinate and update
the position of the animated circle, and recenter the map when the
player get out of the viewport:
http://diveintohtml5.org/geolocation.html

Next step would be to handle touch event to allow pan-ing and zoom-ing
on the map when used on a touch device, I found the following article
